I somehow neglected to mention, on my own blog, the long awaited release of The Eureka Tapes (The Complete Recordings), as a 2 CD set, via the collective efforts of Basses Frequences & Small-Doses.

Long-time friend and supporter of Goat-Eater Arts, John Kealy had the following to say about the release:

"The pieces that make up The Eureka Tapes (The Complete Recordings) were all created whileHoor-paar-Kraat’s Anthony Mangicapra was living in the town of Eureka, California. Indeed, the town’s name is apt as they represent a “Eurekamoment” for Hoor-paar-Kraat as a musical entity; a figurative spilling of the bath waters as Hoor-paar-Kraat found their sound. The hints of alchemical transcendence that peeped through the cracks of previous releases come brazenly into view throughout Eureka Tapes (The Complete Recordings). The Eureka Tapes (The Complete Recordings) is available in a standard two-disc edition, as well as an extremely limited and beautifully crafted art edition which, for some reason or another, I'm unable to post photos of at this time. A Match Made in the Western Lands

During the Fall of 2010, York Factory Complaint (a quartet comprised of Michael Berdan, Ryan Martin, Theresa Smith and Michael Yaniro) & Hoor-paar-Kraat teamed up for a few in-studio recording sessions. This C30, comprised of two side-long tracks, houses the fruits of their collective labors. Neither resembling the back catalog of York Factory Complaint or Hoor-paar-Kraat, the work presented here, is a beast all its own. Harkening back to old school industrial music, these tracks are raw, primal, loud, looping, plodding and, at times, even beat oriented.

Packaged by hand, true to form of Goat-Eater Arts. Each piece is uniquely constructed and consecrated by Anthony Mangicapra.

These cassettes are $6, plus shipping, and can be had at the Goat-Eater Arts web store.

The release of Persistence in Mourning "A Tongue of Bone" has seen a slight delay and should be available with the next batch of Goat-Eater releases,

As many of you know, Goat-Eater Arts is a two man effort between myself and my partner Emmanuel Malchiodi; the Teller to my Penn. Over the years we have brought you a variety of different sounds, and will continue to do so for as long as we are able.

I don't like hardcore music
Growing up in south Florida and being around that macho bullshit culture, where the guy who adheres to the stereotype is somehow deemed the alpha dog for being the most individual, just took it right out of me. Still, many of my close friends, who'd turned me on to a lot of music that I may not have otherwise heard, were deeply immersed in the heart of the hardcore scene. As a result of this, I went to quite a few hardcore shows and I found that I really liked some of the bands that were performing. In that genre of music, as with many other movements, there were always those musicians who strove to do something different and maybe their pent up anger, that I could only appreciate when I was equally as young and angry got them there a little faster than others around them. There certainly was a lot more diversity in the angry straight-edge hardcore scene than there was with the Pacific North West stoner grunge bands. I wonder why? Even though I liked a few hardcore for a little while, I haven't paid much attention to any bands of a similar ilk in quite a long time.

When Emmanuel gave me the tracks by Orlando, FL trio Weeks, I was reminded of all of the reasons that I did like hardcore. The driving aggression of filth coated guitars that sound like they're about to get sick on themselves, drums that make me feel like beating my head against the wall until it turns to jelly and a vocalist who often sounds like he's singing while sprinting full-speed ahead, were many of the reasons that I once loved hardcore. To hear a band making this kind of music, without back pedaling into an over saturated past, is a real treat. This tape is short and sweet like a dwarf prostitute holding a box of chocolate covered amyl nitrate poppers. This is great, youthful, forward thinking music by a group of musicians we hope to hear more from in the future.

Most recently, Anthony Mangicapra has expanded his studies with his projected vision as Hoor-paar-Kraat, taking on a subtle form of layered density and broken theater to what some would call a step into the hypnagogic unknown. Always incorporating a sense of textural beauty found in everyday objects, each piece uses its own sculpted resonance that only HpK can bring out into the open for us, as listeners, to interpret. Typically releasing his recordings through his own imprint, Goat Eater Arts, and only on select occasion does HpK release compositions on outside labels. With the release of Elbow Drops Effortlessly, HpK encompasses an additional contribution by artist Ryan Lamm along side Mangicapra, focusing on taking this endeavor to a more mature, dream-like state.

As I have been mentioning, in pervious posts, there are several new releases on the horizon. Goat-Eater will be releasing the next Persistence in Mourning CD as well as a collaborative release between The York Factory Complaint and Hoor-paar-Kraat. This release came about after I was asked to assist in the recording and engineering of the York Factory Complaint release, destined for Hanson Records.

Apologetic Catch-Up Posts are like Assholes...

Much has happened since I last posted.
There was the first live performance of Hoor-paar-Kraat in five years and it was broadcast, thanks to Wm. Berger, and his Castle of Quiet, on WFMU, July 30th. WFMU is a truly unique, free-form radio station, run by individuals who are truly passionate about what they do. Imagine guys who figured out a way to make mix tapes for all of you, and you'll begin to understand the kind of people behind this show.

The release of the Hoor-paar-Kraat / Psychic Fare C32 was also something which I neglected to plug. There are some copies available from the Goat-Eater Store.

Coming up sooner than later are releases by Black Ghost (paranormal forest psych), Kama Rupa (sheer will in the form of a wave) and Persistence in Mourning (back-woods post-doom).

I will also be selling some paintings and drawings to fund future Goat-Eater releases, in the very near future. Do not hesitate to contact me about acquiring original artworks.

Tapes and CDs on the way

As mentioned in previous posts, the Nicholas Szczepanik CD "Dear Dad" is on it's way. It should be available through Goat-Eater Arts, Sentient Recognition Archive (US) and Basses Frequences (France). A few copies are currently available at the Hospital Productions store, in Manhattan. Each copy is unique, adorned with a single postage stamp.

Also in the wings, is the new Hoor-paar-Kraat release on Peasant Magik. Handy Feet is a C20, comprised of two sidelong tracks, released in an edition of 100 copies with a special, artists edition being released in an edition of 15 copies. Each of the artist editions come with a hand painted 45 in a beautiful 7" x 7" box.

Our friends at Black Horizons will be issuing a Hoor-paar-Kraat C20 called "Coreah". This should be out within a couple of months and, as with all Black Horizons tapes, it should be beautiful. This particular tape is meant to reflect the horrors of a little known condition by the name of Huntington's Coreah.

Acid Casualty Productions will also be re-releasing Asha-Dasha as a C60, in an edition of 100. This music was previously issued as a CDr on Goat-Eater Arts, in a run of 44 copies, way back in 2005.

These will be released along side the compilation of Florida artists, titled "We are Burning to Death". This compilation will include The Goslings, Hoor-paar-Kraat, Rat Bastard, Kenny Millions, Last, Black Jail, Rauh, Nuclear II, Lesson Lesson Lessen Relearn, Destructive Bodies, Drowning The Virgin Silence & Mr. Entertainment and the Pookiesmackers.

Last but not least, Goat-Eater has two new tapes and one CDr in the works. Hoor-paar-Kraat "The Trunk Remains Unmoved" C20 and the Hoor-paar-Kraat/Psychic Fare split C32 are both approaching completion. The CDr is the Persistence in Mourning "A Tongue of Bone" release that we've been so patiently awaiting. Expect this filth covered gem in about another month.

The things I do for you...

New things are coming down the pipe, and with the little bit of downtime that I have, I figured it's a good time to tell you both about it.

First, if you ordered the last two Goat Eater releases by Fecalove & Tim the Band, your order is off to the post just as soon as I have a day off.

Coming up soon are two more contrasting releases. This time we're treading into doom territory. Even though I swore that I'd never release anything metal, I'm going back on my word because this album is just so damn good. Persistence in Mourning will be releasing "A Tongue of Bone" on Goat Eater and I'm very pleased to say that It is a grim and disgusting chunk of sound that will hit you in the face like a brick covered in shit. As usual, there will be 93 copies made.

Going completely in the other direction, "Dear Dad" by Nicholas Szczepanik is, in my opinion, a drone masterpiece. This will be a split label release with Basses Frequences of France and will be in an edition of 200 copies.

In addition to this, we have two tapes coming out. I'll apologize in advance for them being very limited but we just didn't feel that they warranted a larger release, at this time.

The first tape is a C32 split with our very close friends of The Psychic Fare. I suggest checking out their latest release "Wet Wire. For me, this band is the true embodiment of contemporary psychedelia but, being from Humboldt County, they'd surly have an advantage over most. Some of you might remember Bandon Taylor and Brian Fulmer from one of the very first Holy Mountain releases by Plague Lounge, or maybe you don't. The Hoor-paar-Kraat track is straight absurdity, with no apologies for a lack of lucidity. Right now these are being dubbed, by hand. We're looking at an edition of around 50.

The second, also a C32 tape, is a very special Hoor-paar-Kraat release, made to celebrate the life of someone no longer with us. "For Carroll" is comprised of two ultra minimal, barely there, pieces of sound. We will be releasing this in a much smaller edition of around 20 or so.

Of course it goes without saying that all of these will be hand packaged by me.

The "Eureka Tapes" (The Complete Recordings) have been mastered by Kris Lapke (Alberech & Ash Pool) and will be on their way to Joe at Small-Doses and Jerome at Basses Frequences, as they are the fine folks who will be releasing the music as a 2CD set.

I think that's all I have to tell, at this time.

The two new Goat Eater releases are now available for order.

Fecalove - Forever Young
Italy's one-man, debauchery laden, masturbating disaster has come back to Goat Eater for his second full length release. Fecalove's signature cut up junk noise has only gotten better with age. This is what I'd imagine it would sound like to over-dose on viagra, cialis, levitra and vodka martinis. The usual squalling feedback and in-the-red amplified implements are all there but this release is punctuated by tense silences, off kilter tape and electronic manipulations, tortured and effects laden vocals and bass heavy rumblings. I'm not sure that I'd be comfortable saying that Nicola Vinciguerra has matured but he has most definitely grown into something new and that something is, as usual, disgusting.

Tim the Band - Thank You Roland
...and now for something completely different. Goat Eater has never issued anything quite so musical, until now. Tim the Band is a two piece, multi instrumental jazz outfit, that runs the gamut from free jazz to old standards to fusion and beyond. Dan Pearson and Chris Olsen have stripped down their usual truck load of instruments to just a hand-full of saxophones; soprano, tenor and baritone along with a few loop stations to create this beautiful invocation to the late, great Rashaan Roland Kirk. Loops of saxophone build into something more and more interesting as time goes by. This three track CD continues to transform and will most assuredly transfix the listener.

Each CD is $11, postage paid, anywhere in the US. $12 to Canada and $14 for the rest of the world. Get both of them for $18, postage paid in the US. $19 to Canada and $21 for the rest of the world.

I am very proud to announce the release of the Hoor-paar-Kraat "Ship of the Desert" C32, on Brooklyn's own Period Tapes. This cassette is an edition of 46 copies, as is standard with all Period Tapes releases. Period Tapes, if you're not already familiar with them, is under the same management as Dias Records. Collectively, both labels have released work by These Feathers Have Plumes, Genesis P-Orridge, Mother Flock, Chaos Magick, Twin Stumps, Psychic TV, Tor Lundval, Maurizio Bianchini, Cold Cave and others.

Tim the Band and Fecalove CDs will be back from the plant soon and they will be available, shortly thereafter. The Psychic Fare/Hoor-paar-Kraat split C32 is also being dubbed.

Fecalove - Forever Young & TIM the Band -Thank You Roland

Any of you who know Goat Eater, or me personally, know of my love for Italy's masturbating disaster aka Nicola Vinceguerra. Not only does he produce some of the most earsplitting and perverse noise but he's also a wonderfully talented artist. Forever Young is much more tense than his previous Goat Eater release Erection but still delivers like a well deserved kick in the balls.

TIM the Band is the work of Dan Pearson and Chris Olsen, two of the most amazingly talented musicians that I've ever come across. Some of you may know Dan Pearson's work as he loaned his lips and lungs for a track on the release of A Taxonomy of Divine Organisms. Thank You Roland is his homage to the late, great Rashaan Roland Kirk and this three track work of multiple horns and loops would surely make him proud.

Both of these CD-Rs will be made in editions of 93 numbered copies and packaged to the usual Goat Eater standard of beauty and perfection.

Coming sooner rather than later, from Hoor-paar-Kraat, are a few cassettes to be issued by Peasant Magik, Acid Casualty Productions and Period Tapes.

Peasant Magik will be releasing Handy Feet a C20, Period Tapes will be releasing an *as of yet untitled* C30, in their usual edition of 46 copies and Acid Casualty Productions will be reissuing Asha-Dasha, on cassette. At very least, this time more than 46 people will get to hear it.

Other releases from Persistence in Mourning, Nicholas Szczepanik, Psychic Fare, Last, etc... are in the works. I'll post more information when I have it.

Things to Do in Brooklyn When You're Broke

The six or seven of you who actually follow this blog may not even be in close enough proximity to actually attend the above event but I may as well let you all know that Above and Below, which began as a six week long exhibit in Costa Mesa's The Box Gallery, is now set to be hung in South Slope Brooklyn's own Roots Cafe. After an exhibit in Andrew's Art Museum NC we're happy to show this work to an entirely new crowd and we couldn't have hoped for a better environment in which to do it.

I won't wax poetic about the place because my praise for this establishment and it's staff would never end.
I'll just say this; if you're in Brooklyn on July 30th and you're looking for the most interesting thing you could do or see, come to Roots Cafe on Fifth Ave and 18th St. This night in particular will feature the same audio treatment as both the previous openings. The night will begin with the Hoor-paar-Kraat soundtrack to the exhibit "Taxonomy of Divine Organisms" but the similarity ends there. The remainder of the evening will be at the hands of such built in talents as owner Jamey Hamm and recent Oregon refugee Ryan Lamm. Also, there's some guy named Johnny. I don't know his last name but he goes by "The Johns" and he's amazing. Goat Eater will be releasing a tape of his in the future but I'll talk more about that later.

For now, just be there and bring your own bottle. While you're at it bring two; one of them being for me.

Small update.

"A Hare of the Table that Pet You" sees HpK taking a very cartoonish approach. Think about the scenes in those old Loony Tunes episodes where Bugs Bunny gets trashed and can't do anything but stumble and hiccup and you've begun to get an idea. DtVS, on the other hand, tosses a gauntlet into the pop arena with a song that's sure to be a smash hit in the furry/plushie sex parties, for years to come.

"A Wild Country & A Waning Moon" is two tracks of tape and acoustic comedic-nightmare. I really don't know what else to say about it.

Both tapes will be made in editions of 100 copies.

Coming up later this year, Goat Eater Arts will be releasing music by Nicholas Szczepanik, Dan Pearson, Persistence in Mourning, Cian Nugent & Fecalove. Titles, medium, edition, etc... have yet to be determined.

What's in the Works?

After all the dust has settled from the recent flurry of exhibitions, releases, recording, visitors, death, disappointments and cancellations Goat Eater Arts is on track to bring you some new releases from artists you may or may not be familiar with.
We've got 3 new CDr releases on the horizon from the likes of Italy's king of the depraved and perverse Fecalove, Oklahoma's minimalist doom outfit Persistence in Mourning and the inimitable sound sculpture of Nicholas Szczepanik.
More information on these releases will be coming soon. For now, be patient as they'll definitely be worth the wait.

Also in the pipes is Goat Eater's foray into the world of tapes beginning with two we're sure you'll enjoy.
Both releases will be splits between Hoor-paar-Kraat and another artist.

First will be the long overdue split between HpK and long time friend and collaborator Richard Vergez also known under the moniker of Drowning the Virgin Silence. Both tracks on this split clock in at just over 5 minutes and explore the sillier, more whimsical side of each artist, showing that we don't always take everything so seriously. It is bound to delight and confound the listener and may even be our first shot at pop stardom.

Second is a split with Eureka, California's Psychic Fare, headed up by Damaged Restrooms label founder, and ex drummer of the now defunct Plague Lounge, Bandon Taylor. Psychic Fare embodies the true meaning of psychedelia and we're proud as hell to be working along side them as they're an incredibly inventive band and wonderful people, to boot.

Psychic Fare is in the process of releasing their second full length, "Wet Wire" a follow up to their debut "The Slow Drag", on their own imprint Damaged Restrooms. Having received an advance copy, we can say, without doubt, that this is a truly captivating and mind blowing experience and we at Goat Eater encourage you to check it out.

Also in the works is the ultimate release of "The Eureka Tapes" (The Complete Recordings) to be issued as a joint effort between Small-Doses & Basses Frequences. This 2 CD set will re-release all eighteen tracks, from the three volumes of the Eureka Tapes; "A Whisper in the Sow's Ear", "Graduating from Clocks to Watches", "The Taxonomy of Divine Organisms" as well as previously unreleased and scarcely available tracks recorded during the same sessions. At this time, this release is still in the planning phases.

visual / sound artist anthony mangicapra (currently residing in northern california) is the principal member of the aleister crowley / greek / egyptian mythology referencing hoor-paar-kraat. he also co-runs goat eater arts. over the course of this project's lifespan he's been known to bring additional members into his fold, and this release is no different, though his more frequent collaborators (brandon samdahl, richard vergez and duane hosein) are absent. he's joined instead by dr. vanessa sinclair (his lone accomplice on the first volume of the eureka tapes), and what i'm assuming is the malchiodi clan: apollonia, zoe and manny.

multiple layers of ambient waves open up the cassette's first track, lacking a cast shadow. they'll gently sway back and forth by themselves for a few minutes until the introduction of metallic clangs and chiming percussion. one layer of the background ambiance will slowly sweep through in loud vibrating hums as the focal noise seems to be someone diligently ripping every page out of the phone book (with amplification). it's definitely a unique sound and is rather jarring given the entrancing quality that is surrounding it. the later juxtaposition of short, shrill drones with the serenity of the (set-in) minimal soundscape is great.

habit and the smooth sailing of the psyche sounds like what happens when a bunch of people on psychedelics come across a pile of metal objects and decide to be a band. at least it's just psychedelics, or this could have been a nightmare... though it's not far removed from a bad trip. habit actually starts off pretty sparsely, but when five people are sparse all at once, you tend to lose some of that minimalism. i hear banging, plucking, ringing, metal droning, tolling, additional clanging... then later, the warbling of analog manipulations. basically, it's a cacophonous symphony. i'm appreciative of the repetitious ripple of droning that's providing a coherent anchor as all of the disjunct organic noise, and the manipulated noise, form an unholy union... otherwise, my head would throb from too much strange sounding shit all being piled on top of one another, but since that drone's there, i like habit just fine.

hoor-paar-kraat will mellow way out for departure of the icicle man. this has the feel of an interlude, but it's hard to call it as such when it's nearly eight minutes long. this is just drifting ambient synthesizer peppered with brief snippets of backwards manipulations and occasional distortion. it doesn't do very much, but it sounds soothing, and does serve as a transition from the claustrophobic nature of the previous track.

the manipulated vocal recordings of relics of the inheritance, which starts off side b, kind of creeps me right the hell out. i don't even know what the hell the guy's talking about, but his slowed down voice takes on this demented whine that fucking disturbs me. another thing that accentuates my unease is the tense combination of plucked strings played in conjunction with backwards, sped up manipulations of said strings. harrowing. good thing (for my sanity) it's only three minutes long.

graduating will continue its turbulent journey from relatively normal to frenetic and back again with the eight minutes of the broken windows of a fertile world. this is hands down the best of their not so crazy pieces. it opens with field recordings of running water and a main layer of great guitar melody (a touch on the bleak side, but whatever), which is complimented by a low acoustic drone. after the water runs dry, in come soft, vibrato howls in the background. those will soon change into grating screeches, like moving a desk with rubber stoppers on its legs across a (mile long) tiled floor... or, evil monkeys. i love how long it takes for each occurrence to eventually fade away.

the final track, the self is an onion-self begins with a distinctly dank mechanical atmosphere, which springs forth to my mind, being in the bowels of a huge ship. that will develop into a rad rhythmic pattern, aided by thunderous booms in the background. self soon briefly incorporates an odd noisier layer; a loud, vaguely digital, sputtering drone, which clears out for a new droning wave, seeming to emanate from some of the pounding in the dark recesses. that will then get broken down wonderfully into fractured segments which swoop into self's forefront. after those will pass, i can hear that pattern, in its unmodified form, lurking in the backdrop. shortly past the halfway point there will be a few calm minutes where nothing extraneous is happening to the track's layered central rhythm, though there will come one more passage of commotion, which flashes by, and then it's placid for the remainder.

graduating from clocks to watches is weird, to say the least. kind of creepy, too. it's also really fucking good. even at its oddest peaks, never did hoor-paar-kraat abandon a semblance of structure, either through rhythm or a general repetitive (and pleasing) melodic tone, which kept their work fairly grounded when it could've easily strayed into (deep) left field abstractness. it also helped that the weirdness never seemed forced, i couldn't pick up on an intentionally dark slant, but the chilling aura was certainly felt at times. not to mention that the sum of what they were doing appeared to have at least a modicum of original thought behind it, which is always great (when it works).

The Box contemporary art gallery is proud to present the works of artists Duane Hosein and Anthony Mangicapra. This collection of new work will open at the Costa Mesa gallery on Saturday March 21, 2009, from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM. The exhibition will run through May 2, 2009.

The season surrounding the equinox is a time where darkness and light have equal times to co-exist. Artist’s Duane Hosein and Anthony Mangicapra have taken the charge and created an exhibition worthy of this time of change and hope. Above and Below is an exhibition where each artist has researched the underlying concepts of heaven and hell and put those ideas to canvas, paper, and music.

Trinidad born Florida artist Duane Hosein’s pen and ink works are a testament to his mastery and control. “I approach every piece with the fervor of an iron-fisted dictator” Hosein admits, “It is all about the detail. It is tedious, but therapeutic”. His work for Above and Below is the culmination of research into different religious and cultural interpretations of hell and the creatures and experiences that inhabit the demonic region.

New York artist Anthony Mangicapra’s canvases are dedicated to the heavens for this exhibition. After extensive research into canonical, occult, theosophical, and ancient texts, Mangicapra’s works portray the divine as no other artist could capture. “I want to create beauty” Mangicapra says, “but I can’t control that. I am just a conduit for ideas”.

To accompany the artwork, both artists have combined to create a soundtrack under Hoor-paar-Kraat to be released by Goat Eater Arts in concurrence with the exhibition. Mangicapra describes the experience as “painting with sound”, where everyday sounds lose their original qualities and re-emerge manipulated into a new language of meanings.

Hoor-paar-Kraat - Graduating from Clocks to Watches (Eureka Tapes Vol. II)

"With well over 20 releases to its name, Anthony Mangicapra's Hoor-paar-Kraat project has taken on many guises over the years, containing no less than 14 different collaborators over the course of its varied discography. No matter the personnel though, the unit has consistently pushed at the boundaries between drone, noise and musique concrète to masterful effect. Here, Mangicapra teams up with four cohorts and comes up with a beautifully consistent and thematically realized piece. That it has been printed in a relatively large run (for this sort of release anyway...) of 200 is good news, but unfortunately not so good that anyone who wants one can afford to bide their time should they desire a copy. Such is the tape world I suppose; c'est la vie.

Consistent with the standard working mode of the band, this release tip-toes around the darker precipices of its various genre dabblings without ever submerging into total blackness. Spread across the six lengthy tracks are thick and tactile dronescapes, disturbed vocal babblings, and creepy guitar dirges atop squawking synthesizer cries. This dark and mysterious atmosphere, consistent with the group's enigmatic existence, is hardly a dip in the relatively safe waters of the overdone doom and gloom rock pursued by so many though; Hoor-paar-Kraat merely use this as a starting point from which to uncover deeper pockets of mystery. That they never tell their listener exactly how to feel is one of the great--and ultimately frightening--strengths they display.

Each track here more or less represents a single approach, and the patience exhibited in working within those specific and relatively limited fields makes each piece its own whole without becoming so cluttered as to take away from the album's sense of focus. The first side, for example, opens with "Lacking a Cast Shadow," a slow and smooth drone buildup that shimmers with gray stillness as swathes of air bellow beneath scratching claws and tiny bells. Nearly unmoving, the piece serves as a palette cleanser, easing the listener into the decidedly more elusive and eerie version of bleak pursued on "Habit and the Smooth Sailing of the Psyche." That this too finds its groove, opting for odd tape clatterings and distant, crawling gamelan moves that keep the descending trajectory of the album as restrained and patient as possible.

If the first side of the tape is the journey downward—especially with the closing "departure of the Icicle Man" and its dark and knotty drone loops—then the second side is the arrival and subsequent blind exploration of that realm. "Relics of the Inheritance" features odd guitar string tuggings and hollowed out verbal ramblings that leave little to grasp on to. That the group is willing to do so is wholly unsettling, and remarkably effective as a logical progression from the hints of this amorphous approach presented on the first side.

Perhaps the most oblique and overtly gloomy material on the tape is found on "The Broken windows of a Fertile World," whose bird calls and playground chatter hover menacingly under austere guitar explorations. This is a sparse and dismal landscape indeed, but Hoor-paar-Kraat handles it as delicately as it does everything here; the piece never erupts with anything near a climax, instead floating with delicate hostility whose unending patience grinds any safety net to a pulp, leaving you fully unsuspecting of the harsh blasts of static din that erupt on the closing "The Self is an Onion-Self."

The keen sense of timing and clear division between approaches on each side marks the basement academicism of the release. While many artists working in this vein achieve liftoff with nearly every track, it is refreshing to hear a unit at work that understands the power of sonic confinement and the dire connotations of time. While the title may suggest a technological move forward, it also means that the clock is always present, counting down the hours one by one to be monitored at your convenience. And this is just the sort of dark momentum forged from track to track as this fully realized outing unfolds."

Graduating and Moving to Brooklyn

The second installment in the Eureka Tapes series, "Graduating from Clocks to Watches" has been released by the ever expanding tape label, Peasant Magik. This series documents the brief time Hoor-paar-Kraat has spent in Northern California and has an altogether organic feel about it. While the first installment "A Whisper in the Sow's Ear" was very minimal, "Graduating from Clocks to Watches" is far more complex while still being painted with the same brush. They are currently available through Peasant Magik for $6 postage paid in the US, $7 to Canada and $10 anywhere else. Goat Eater will have copies for sale but, at this time, we would prefer that you make your purchase directly through the label and, while you're there, be sure to take a look at their other available releases.

The new HpK LP "A Doorbell of Earbows for Brefix" will be available within a matter of days. they will be priced at $14 postage paid in the US, $17 to Canada and $22 overseas.

On a totally different note, I (Anthony Mangicapra) will be moving to Brooklyn, New York on December the 29th 2008. If you have plans to send anything to me at the Eureka, California address please hold off until I can get situated at my new home in Brooklyn. Never send anything media mail if it's delayed arrival will become the cause of much stress. That being said, the test presses for the next HpK LP "A Doorbell of Earbows for Brefix" have arrived. The sound of these records has exceeded our every expectation. Having the mastering work handled by James Plotkin was a great decision and we simply cannot endorse his services enough. Pirates Press also did a wonderful job with the wax. This is our second time working with them and we couldn't be more pleased with the service they provide.

Tape Designs and Mystery Test Pressings

The above design was handled by our good friend Brett Slutsky (yes, that's his real name) over at Acid Casualty Records and the artwork was executed by Anthony Mangicapra. On the subject of Acid Casualty, they will be releasing a split C15 between Last and Hoor-paar-kraat within the next few months. Last is pure harsh junk-noise from sunny Miami, FL.

We're still waiting on the test pressings for the A Doorbell of Earbows for Brefix LP. No signs of it just yet. More news as and when it comes.

Goat Eater Arts is Accepting Submissions

To all parties interested in submitting work to the Goat Eater Arts Collective;

I am pleased to have received so much feedback to my original announcement.
I promise to be in as direct contact as possible with any and all artists who chose to present their work to Goat Eater, from this point forward. Goat Eater Arts has decided to open itself up to being more than simply a vehicle for Hoor-paar-Kraat, related parties and various incarnations. We feel that our collective experience can only be a benefit to us and the artist we'll be working with.

Since Goat Eater Arts had begun we have been continually exposed to an exhausting amount of beautiful music and feel that it is time to explore higher ground by releasing the work of other talented artists.

We are currently looking to release four full length CDrs, of which we already have one planned, within the next 3 or 4 months time. In addition to this we are planning a 3 or 4 cassette set with our friends at Acid Casualty Records from Miami, Florida. For this we will be giving each artist a side of a 30 minute cassette. That artist may use their 15 minutes in any way they see fit, be that a single track or many and we accept music of any and all genres. The inspiration for this particular piece comes from the old G.R.O.S.S. Records sets, that some of you may be familiar with. We are very excited to put into motion what has been talked about for quite some time.

If you are familiar with our rather small back catalog you will know that Goat Eater does it's best to handle each and every release with the utmost care. Everything is done by hand. We are a label owned and operated by working artists and seek to rechampion archival quality works. All we ask is the same in return of artists we choose to work with.

Goat Eater Arts has no interest in owning the rights to any work released on it's imprint. If the artist decides, at a later date, to re-release the material on another label or in another format, they are always free to do so.

Our preferred method of submission is to receive a hard copy of work, either intended for release or indicative of the works you plan to create for said release. Please send CDrs to the following address.

Music for the Williamson Tunnels

Not long ago I was contacted by a gentleman by the name of Alan Dunn to contribute a track, from an older release, to a compilation of music made from the sounds of dripping water. I graciously accepted and sent him a hard copy of the release. At that time I was given very little information aside from the fact that my track, as well as other pieces of music made from dripping water, would be accompanying an exhibit in the Williamson Tunnels; a place I've never been.

Today, I received an unsuspecting package from British address containing copies of a beautiful two CD set comprised of beautiful artwork and even more beautiful music. Before anybody decides to ask, I do not have any copies for sale but, if you're in the area of the Williamson Tunnels, they are being given away for free at the exhibit.

I'm both proud and surprised to say that the Hoor-paar-Kraat track "A Sudden Attack of Conscience", originally released on "Mercurial Little Jitterbug", is along side of works by artists such as Walter Cianciusi, Jem Finer, Roger McKinley, Scanner, Oliver Bernard, Asmus Tietchens, Sirpa Jokinen, Ben Patterson, VOID OV VOID, Jeff Young and Alan Dunn.

Each piece is hand numbered and comes with a nice booklet explaining the exhibit and introducing the artists and curators.

On Peasant Magik, Tape and the Divine

I am proud to announce that both the Turgid Animal and Goat Eater versions of Dionysos/Dionysus are now available. The Goat Eater version released as a CDr in our usual ultra pretentious hand-made packaging, while Turgid Animal has released it as a C40 complete with wine stained table cloth, pieces of a smashed wine bottle and art by the one and only Nicola Vinciguerra.

As of now, I can only offer the Goat Eater version as I am awaiting the tapes from Turgid Animal headquarters in Italy. Anyone having any experience with the Italian postal service knows that there is absolutely nothing slower. Goat Eater will have copies of the tape but, if you 'd like a copy of the Turgid Animal tape, you can obtain one directly from the label by clicking HERE. Be sure to check out all of their label and distributed items.

The masters for Graduating from Clocks to Watches (Eureka Tapes Vol. II) have made their way back to me after being in the hands of Bob Bellarue (Anarchy Moon/Redglaer) and I am very pleased to say that they have exceeded my expectations in every way. Anyone looking for quality mastering at a very reasonable rate would be wise to contact Mr. Bellarue.

Though I can give no firm release date for this work, I can say that it should be available in about a month's time. Art work will be handled by Anthony Mangicapra, design by Brett Slutsky (Last/Acid Casualty Productions) and the over-all release and assembly by Salvatore Giorgi (Pillars of Heaven/Peasant Magik). This release will be issued as a C60 and if Peasant Magik's previous releases are any indication of their future out put, they are certain to look and sound absolutely beautiful.

Duane Hosein and Anthony Mangicapra have recently signed on for an exhibit, March of 2009, at The Box Gallery in Costa Mesa, CA. The theme for their exhibit will be that of Heaven and Hell. Each plane being depicted by one of the artists. Hosein will be reigning in Hell while Mangicapra slaves in Heaven. Both artists have begun to toil away on the visual end and will soon be working on music designed especially to accompany the exhibit.

We're not very far from our mark needed to press "A Doorbell of Earbows for Brefix" on LP but we still aren't there yet. In the coming weeks we will be auctioning off some original art, test pressings and other one of a kind Goat Eater related items, in an effort to raise a bit of capitol to get this record pressed. I'll be blunt. We need money if we're going to get this pressed.

For those of you not cool enough to be "in-the-know", A Doorbell of Earbows for Brefix is the next Hoor-paar-Kraat LP. This album collects two tracks previously released as The Huntington Chapters, a 3" CDr released by Small-Doses as the A side. The B side will contain two more tracks, only one of which saw a very limited release as a part of the Killing is My Business... subscription series also released by Small-Doses. The fourth track is, as of yet, unreleased. The plan is to make 500 copies of this LP on good ol' fashioned black wax. Featured on this LP are the works of Duane Hosein, Richard Vergez, Brandon Samdahl and Anthony Mangicapra. The whole thing has been mastered for vinyl by the very capable hands of James Plotkin (O.L.D., Khanate, Khylst, Phantomsmasher, etc...) and, if I may say so myself, it sounds fantastic.

This single 30 minute track of bowed metal, bells and manipulated field recordings served as the backdrop to the June 2008 exhibit, curated by artist and museum director Annette Rawlings.

Fecalove/Hoor-paar-Kraat - Dionysos/Dionysus is the culmination of a year's worth of work. Done in praise of the Vine God's Solemn Sacrament, this CD is as abrasive as it is delicate. Fans of either artist will be surprised and captivated. Two different versions of this release will be made, both in editions of 50. Italian/UK label Turgid Animal and Goat Eater Arts have crafted their own very different packaging for this long overdue release.

Both of these releases will be available within a matter of days.
